We are now working on Unit7 in Math.  In this unit we will be learning about patterns and rules.  Unit 7 focuses on the following concepts:

*

Please look for the Family Letter that comes home at the beginning of each chapter.  These will be useful in helping your child understand the concepts of the chapter and nightly homework.

Your child will be having Fast Facts homework twice a week.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a blue paper with 30 addition facts will come home for homework.  The goal is for your child to finish this sheet in 70 seconds or less.  If they do not finish it in that amount of time, please continue to complete the page.  On Wednesdays and Fridays, your child will  be given a quiz on the same facts.  They will have 70 seconds to complete this.

Here are two websites filled with great math games for your child to practices their skills

We will continue to work in our small groups during Guided Reading.  We have learned so many reading strategies to help us become better readers.  In the beginning of the year, we learned about different strategies to use when we come to an unknown word.

Now, we are so excited about doing Reader's Workshop.  We have our own "book nooks" around the room to read in.  We are learning all kinds of strategies to help us understand the story better.  In January we learned about metacognition and schema.  Ask us how salad and lint rollers help us to become better readers!!

This month we will learn about questioning and visualization.

We continue to love Writer's Workshop!  It is one of our favorite times of the day and we often get sad sighs we it is time to stop writing.  This month we will be practicing ways to end our stories and leave the reader satisfied with the ending.  We will also be working on telling a lot of detail about the main event in the story.

In celebration of the Valentine's Day, we will be writing secret Valentine's to a friend in our class.  We will be sharing these at our Valentine's Day party.

Our next unit in Science is a class favorite...dinosaurs!  We will be learning about when the dinosaurs lived, what they ate, and many more exciting facts.

In Social Studies, we will be learning about the six pillars of good character!

We will also be celebrating Black History Month by learning about famous Americans such as Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, George Washington Carver and many more.
