These are the decoding strategies that we have been working on all year. They help us figure out tricky words when we are reading!

Eagle Eye tells us to look at the pictures for clues |
Lips the Fish tell us to get our mouth ready for the first sound |
Stretchy Snake tells us to stretch out the word |
Chunky Monkey tells us to look for "chunks" that we already know |
Flippy Dolphin tells us to "flip" the vowel sound |
Skippy Frog tell us to skip the word, read to the end of the sentence and then "hop" back to it |
Trying Lion tell us to keep trying! |
Helpful Kangaroo tells us to ask for help after we've tried all the other strategies. |
